Students from all the tertiary institutions in Oyo State under the aegis of Students Integrity Group (SIG), on Wednesday, trooped out in large number to rally support for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan on March 28.
Clad in T-shirts with Jonathan’s image emblazoned on them, the students marched through areas like Sango, Mokola and Total Garden, singing and distributing to traders, motorists and passers-by, pamphlets containing some of the projects done by Jonathan.
Addressing the students, the immediate past chairman of WEMABOD Limited, one of the several companies in Oodua Investment, Dr Ismail Adewusi, said Nigerians needed to re-elect Jonathan because he had performed excellently for the country, especially in the area of education.
“People are shouting change. But what kind of change are we looking for in this country? What we need is sustainable change and the only way we can get that is to re-elect Jonathan. The messiah Nigeria needs is not in the All Progressives Congress (APC) but in Jonathan.
“He has done quite a lot in four years in areas like infrastructural development, agriculture, rail transportation, even in industrial policy. We now have national automobile policy which has generated several thousands of jobs and will continue to generate more. These are just some of the things he has done.
“Jonathan will win very well in Oyo State. From what we have seen and from the work we have done and what we will continue to do between now and the election day, I can assure you that President Jonathan will win well in the state,” he said.
“His initiative of the national conference, which report he has promised to implement in full, will also win him votes in the South-West region. Implementing the report will bring an enduring restructuring of the country,” he said.
The coordinator of the students’ body, Mr Adebowale Adebayo, said Jonathan had demonstrated that he was a lover of education, a reason he established 12 new universities in addition to two specialised universities for the advancement of education in the country.
He promised that SIG would mobilise students, whom he said had all got their permanent voter cards, to ensure a resounding success for Jonathan on March 28.
