Akwa Ibom delegates to the national conference have opposed the creation of Oil Rivers state.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC),  recently adopted the report of the conference, which reportedly recommended Oil Rivers as one of the new states to be created.
Former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Chief Nduese Essien who opposed the creation of the proposed state on behalf  of other delegates from Akwa Ibom said there was no time the conference resolved to create an additional state from Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.
“At no time was such a matter discussed either at the plenary or committee level of the Conference and therefore, was surreptitiously included for implementation.
“Having taken notice of the illegal inclusion, we had raised concern. Akwa Ibom delegation to the Conference had raised the issue at its meeting at the home of the leader of the South-South, Chief Edwin Clark and it was agreed that a statement be issued disclaiming the purported inclusion of Akwa Ibom in the proposed Oil Rivers State.
