“I am really humbled by this award, I want to thank you for acknowledging most of the developments achieved by the state government especially in human capital because the bottom line of every government is to affect the lives of the people positively. When journalists appreciate your efforts then it is genuine appreciation,” he said.
Dr. Uduaghan expressed delight that journalists in the state were now united and charting a common course after years of crisis, and implored them to sustain the relationship.
Meanwhile, the state government has given out N500 million to 100 beneficiaries of the 2013 First Class Graduate Scholarship Scheme.
Governor Uduaghan, who performed the official ceremony in Asaba explained that the purpose was to eliminate societal impediment of lack of funds for a first class graduate to pursue his/her education to the doctoral degree level, and urged the beneficiaries to be worthy ambassadors of the state wherever they found themselves.
He challenged parents to ensure proper upbringing of their children in order to achieve a better family unit and better organised society.
“Please let us build a better society by properly bringing up our children at the family level; generally, a child who is properly brought up is an asset to the society. No matter the position you have attained, personal attention to our children is very important and what we call insecurity starts from the home, parents, please we owe it as a duty to the society to take care of our children,” he said
