If the decision of Nigerians on a pre-election survey conducted recently is anything to go by, the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan will be a reality as Nigerians agreed that their basic and fundamental human rights are better protected under his administration than that of the opposition presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari.
This resolution which came from the survey conducted by a non-governmental body, Kevin, Charlyn & Kimberly Associates, further revealed that only about 42 per cent of Nigerians believed that General Muhammadu Buhari could drive an economic process that would lead to the development of Nigeria.
The Deputy Director of the associates, Mr. Vince Onyekwere, said the outcome of the poll showed that over 70 per cent of Nigerians would queue behind President Jonathan in the March 28 poll, leaving only about 30 per cent of the voting population to the major opposition party presidential candidate.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja yesterday, Vince said the firm has no political leaning, adding that as stakeholders in the Nigerian project, they were interested in the outcome that would favour the country and benefit the people, who were the ultimate decider of the elections by their votes.
He added that the National Opinion Poll, Nigeria Decides, was in pursuant of having a true feeling of the people as well as to educate and ensure development of Nigeria as a nation.

He said the selection process captured Nigerians of all shades and opinion, presenting their perception of the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), President Goodluck Jonathan and General Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.

“We asked the respondents three questions: between APC-GMB & PDP-GEJ, who would best protect your fundamental human rights? 30 per cent respondents said APC-Buhari and 70 per cent of the respondents settled for Jonathan.
“Between, elections holding in February, 14, 2015, & March 28th, 2015, which date do you feel safer and more secured to participate in the 2015, Presidential Elections? 35 per cent said Feb. 14, while 70 per cent said March 28.
“We equally asked them between APC-GMB and PDP-GEJ, who would best develop Nigeria Economy? While 42 per cent of the respondents said APC Buhari, 58 per cent said PDP-GEJ,” Onyekwere said.
He further emphasised that the past records and utterances of the two candidates were considered in the poll while Nigerians of divergent backgrounds cutting across ethnicity, religion and social leanings, expressed their perception of both candidates.
