Suswam loses to Gemade

gabriel-suswam1

Finally, Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost Benue North East senatorial election to incumbent Senator Barnabas Gemade of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Prof. Ignatius Ada who announced announced the result at the INEC office in Makurdi at about 12 midnight stated that Gemade polled the highest votes of 140, 715 to defeat Suswam who polled a total of 118, 603 votes with a wide margin of 22, 112.
Daily Sun gathered that five candidates contested the election on various political platforms, but Gemade, a former chairman of the ruling PDP who defected to the APC shortly after he lost the PDP primaries defeated them all.
Meanwhile, Suswam has passed a vote of no confidence on the Resident Commissioner (REC) of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in charge of the state, Prof. Istifanus Dafwang and called for his removal.
“I have no confidence in the REC because he is obviously biased. We don’t want him to stay here and conduct the subsequent elections. If Prof. Jega refuses to change him, then, we will have to take a legal action.”
Suswam who spoke in Makurdi yesterday insisted that the Commissioner, in active connivance with his co-contestant, Senator Gemade of the All Progressives Congress deprived him of victory in the Benue North East Senatorial election.
The Governor who lamented the cancellation of results of three wards in Logo as well as in nine polling units in Mbadede ward of Vandeikya local government areas respectively said the number of voters in these areas were about 128,000 adding that if the results had not been cancelled, he would have defeated Gemade squarely.
“By the result that was announced by INEC, Gemade was said to have won by only 22,000 votes while the results that were cancelled were from areas where the PDP is strong is 128,000. The INEC REC refused to cancel result of four wards in Konshisha despite objection raised by my agent. So, I suspect a foul play. the Commissioner is highly compromised and we no longer have confidence in him here.

Breaking News! Jonathan concedes to Buhari

-

President Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari on his victory in the Saturday election.
According to APC chieftains in the know, they said in a telephone call at exactly 5:15pm to Buhari in Abuja, Jonathan assured him of maximum cooperation and smooth transition.
Jonathan has also called National leader of the APC, Senator Bola Tinubu to congratulate him on his party’s victory at the poll.

PDP rejects results in Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, others

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan (C)

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has, rejected the results of presidential and National Assembly elections  conducted at the weekend in seven states of the federation.
At a press briefing in Abuja yesterday, deputy national chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, disclosed that the national working committee of the ruling party had petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)  over alleged electoral malpractices in Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Katsina and Kogi states.
Secondus alleged that in the seven states, the under age were allowed to vote in contravention of the Electoral Act, while he further alleged that voting took place late in the night in the affected states.
Secondus said: “In Kano and some of these states in the North, majority of voters were under-age. Voting also took place in the night and you know that in the night rigging can take place.
“We have completed our reports from Kano State chapter.”
The deputy national chairman of the ruling party expressed concern that in Gombe State where Boko Haram terror group attacked three local councils when results were being collated, the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) was eventually declared as winner.
At a separate briefing in Abuja, Director of Media and Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode restated his claim that the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan was coasting home to victory.
Fani Kayode said Dr  Jonathan was ahead of his main rival and APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari “by at least two to three million votes.”
He also warned that the PDPPCO would not accept any results not favourable to President Jonathan.
Fani Kayode said:”We wish to take this opportunity to make it clear to the Nigerian public that according to the figures made available to us, we are ahead in the presidential elections by at least two to three million votes.
“We have our own Situation Room and we have collated all our figures from the various polling booths, wards, local government areas and states in the Federation.
“Despite the propaganda of the opposition, we are confident of victory.  “They and all other stakeholders can be rest assured that we will accept nothing less than the announcement of an election result that is truthful and that reflects the true will of the Nigerian people.
“Any attempt to manipulate figures or to rig us out from any quarter  will be firmly resisted.”
Asked by reporters whether his open declaration of Dr Jonathan as the leading candidate was not an open defiance to INEC national chairman, Professor Attahiru  Jega’s admonition that contending parties should defer to the electoral body on outcome of the elections, the former Aviation Minister declared that he was relying on his sources which he noted were credible.
“ Ask Professor Jega, whether it is true or not that PDP agents were there by law in every polling units across the country.
“Our agents know how to transmit figures to us.
“So, our source is credible and I expect INEC chairman to be aware of that because we have our process of cross-checking figures.
“Any attempt to present figures that isn’t in conformity with the expectations of Nigerians will be resisted. There are forces, bent on frustrating the process and ensuring that their candidate is announced.
“We are very confident and we await the results.

INEC Sporadic shootings in Osun

INEC

The Osun East senatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Francis Fadahunshi, on Monday alleged that he was attacked by some suspected gunmen in front of the state party secretariat  late Sunday night.
Sola Olowoye, the spokesperson of Fadahunshi Campaign Organisation, who disclosed this to newsmen in Osogbo on Monday, explained that Fadahunsi’s convoy was returning from Independent Natioanl Electoral Commission’s  (INEC) head office in Osogbo when some unidentified men shot at him.
Olowoye also disclosed that a vehicle had been noticed trailing the convoy, adding that the development forced the security aides attached to him to divert into the premises of the PDP secretariat.
“But as he was being rushed into the premises of PDP secretariat, some armed men alighted from the vehicle that had trailed us from INEC office and fired several shots at the Toyota Solara car conveying Fadahunshi,” Olowoye said.
He added: “He barely escaped being hit by the bullets.  Fadahunshi was in company of the state chairman of PDP, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, and other party leaders when the attack took place. They had visited the INEC office because of the delay in announcing the winner of the senatorial contest.”
There were also sporadic gunshots  along the Abere Road leading to the town as soon as Fadahunsi and his APC contender, Babajide Omoworare,  left INEC premises, causing panic among the residents and apprehension in the state capital.
Daily Sun gathered that the gunshots were a part of protest that had trailed the reportedly controversial result of the Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly election, with both Fadahunsi and Omoworare claiming victory.
Meanwhile, INEC yesterday  afternoon returned the incumbent senator representing Osun East, Babajide Omoworare, as the winner of the last Saturday’s poll.
Omoworare polled 101, 352 to defeat the PDP candidate, Prince Francis  Fadahunshi, who polled 99,166 votes.
The result of election the  in Ife Central Local Government Area had been subject of controversy, following allegations of abduction of the returning officer, which delayed the release of the result till about noon yesterday.

Nnamani’s supporters protest in Enugu

Nkanu Ken Nnamani

Thousands of supporters of former Enugu State governor, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, yesterday took over major streets of Enugu protesting the result of the senatorial election, which he claimed to have won.
The protesters, who displayed the posters of Nnamani, who contested on the platform of People for Democratic Change (PDC), stormed the Enugu office of the Independent National Electoral  Commission (INEC) to register their protest before converging on the Okpara Square, where the former governor addressed newsmen.
Nnamani alleged that after elections had ended at Umuenwe-ene the electoral officials refused to count the votes.
When they were pressurised to count they counted the first and second ballot boxes and the police withdrew.
“When police withdrew, thugs took over and now held the INEC people hostage and the other  candidate and his wife started thumb printing. Do you know they did it for six hours? The REC was informed, the admin secretary was informed, the Area Commander came and left, SARS came and left.
“Even a young army officer came into Nike Hall, saw him thumb-printing and also left.”
Nnamani said there was no election in Isi-uzo; “the elections were manipulated through a pre-arranged system.
“I am here to make it clear that it has to come to an end in this country. It is completely unacceptable to me. It is an inspiration; what has happened has inspired me; it made me stronger; we are going to restructure the politics of Enugu within the next 10 days.
It’s even possible that PDP may not produce the governor.
“What we have is a crop of jobbers who had nothing doing before I introduced them to politics; all of them without exception. Apart from Jim Nwobodo and maybe Okwesilieze Nwodo any active politician today was produced by me.
“I campaigned; I went everywhere persistently; I trekked went home by home. If you go round Enugu they will tell you who won the election. So, I won the election; I want it on record that Chimaroke Nnamani won the senatorial election; I want to go on record that Nnoli Nnaji won the Reps position; that Silas Ogbodo and IK Ome won the Reps.
“We won because the result sheet shows that we won;because the list of accreditation will show the people who came and voted; and 91,000 people did not vote in Enugu East. It is physically impossible.”

Ladoja protests, calls for cancellation of elections results

ladoja new

The Accord, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) may form an alliance against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State to win the April 11 governorship/House of Assembly elections in the state.
The indications emerged yesterday as the Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Oloye Jumoke Akinjide; PDP governorship candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin; SDP governorship candidate, Mr. Seyi Makinde; and former deputy governor of the state, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja stormed Bodija residence of the Accord gubernatorial candidate, Senator Rashidi Ladoja.
The LP governorship candidate, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, reportedly sent his running mate, Alhaji Sarafadeen Alli, to Ladoja’s residence in connection with the landslide recorded in the state by APC during the last Saturday’s polls. Ladoja, who addressed a press conference in Ibadan yesterday evening, said his visitors came to greet him because they were shocked with the outcome of the elections. Though pundits said the meeting might lead to an alliance, Ladoja did not say such issue was discussed.
He, however, made a strong case for the outright cancellation of the presidential/National Assembly polls held last Saturday, alleging that the exercise was fraught with irregularities. He blamed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the alleged irregularities, saying the commission purportedly pre-planned the exercise to fail.
According to him, there were reports of insufficient ballot papers, voting in the night without light, late arrival of INEC officials to polling centres, failure of card readers, manipulation of election results from the polling units to collation centres, non-conformity of number of accredited voters with total votes cast, discrepancies between figures on Form EC3A and EC3B when results moved from one place to the other and so on.
His words: “As far as we are concerned in the Accord, we believe that the election should be cancelled. There was no election in Oyo State; either it was already pre-designed to fail or pre-designed to favour APC. I don’t know.
“I thank the electorate from Oyo State for coming out to vote, particularly those who voted for our party. We believe that the elections held on Saturday happened to be the worst election conducted in Nigeria.”
All the problems started from the permanent voter cards (PVCs) that were said not to be available. They were distributed in some places overnight.
“In the conduct of the election, starting from the morning of the exercise, INEC said accreditation would start by 8a.m. In many polling stations, INEC did not get there until after 10a.m and in some places after 12noon. When they got there, one material or the other would be missing.
“In some cases, they would start accreditation and after the accreditation, they would say the number of ballot papers they had were less than the number accredited. The excuse was that when the ballot papers were being shared, we were told that the number of PVCs that were distributed in polling booths was a certain number. We did not know that other people collected their PVCs overnight.
“In some places, after the accreditation, they would say ballot papers have not come. An example was Ido Local Government. Ballot papers did not get there until after 7p.m. in some cases after the election, they said the result sheets were not available and in many cases, they had to use ordinary sheets of paper instead of the prescribed Form EC3A.

Presidential Election: Soldiers shot at my convoy –Okorocha

okorocha-499x330
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, yesterday disclosed that he escaped death by the whiskers when  soldiers on election duty shot at his convoy, leaving one of his aides severely wounded.
This was coming  just as he has accused the presidency of militarising the state to intimidate the people  from freely electing who they want to govern them.
Okorocha said  he was returning from a meeting with  All Progressives Congress (APC) agents, at the Imo International Convention Center, when the soldiers  allegedly opened fire on his convoy and in the process injured one of his aides, who is now receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre,Owerri.
Okorocha who briefed journalists on the outcome of Saturday’s election at the Government House, alleged that the collation of the results of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state were done  by the military and officials of the Department of State Security (DSS) in connivance with leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), apparently to ensure that the APC presidential candidate,General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) did not get the required 25 per cent votes in the state.
“It was shocking that while collation was ongoing at the various collation centres in the zones, the military stormed the centres and whisked away the collation officers  to INEC headquarters in Owerri, where the results were written in favour of the PDP.
When contacted,  the Army Commander in charge of the 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze, Brig. General Lanre Bello, described  the allegation as totally false, insisting that the soldiers in the state had carried out their duties peacefully and professionally.
According to him, “no soldier shot at the governor’s convoy, neither was military personnel  involved in the collation of results. The soldiers on election duty, carried out their jobs peacefully and professionally.
He noted that it was the governor’s supporters that ambushed the soldiers at Ngor-Okpala and threw  bottles filled with substances suspected to be fuel at the soldier’s vehicle on Army vehicles. There was no incident of any shooting involving the soldiers in the state; the election was generally peaceful in the state, so the allegation of the governor is totally false and unfounded.

Buhari jonathan

Muhammadu Buhari Wins Nigeria's 2015 Presidential Election

The 72-year-old Buhari built an early lead in northern state
Election commission declares victory for former military ruler, Muhammadu Buhari, over incumbent Goodluck Jonathan.
Nigeria's election commission has declared Muhammadu Buhari the winner of the country's bitterly contested presidential election, in a vote marred marred by confusion, arguments and violence.
Al Jazeera's Yvonne Ndege, reporting from the capital Abuja, said the election commission made the announcement after nearly all the votes had been tallied.
According to a Reuters news agency tally. Buhari's APC won by 2.1 million votes, with 15.4 million votes versus 13.3 for Jonathan and the PDP.
Victory for former military ruler Buhari marks the first time in Nigeria's history that an opposition party has democratically taken control of the country from the ruling party.
Lai Mohammed, the spokesman for the APC, told the AFP news agency that his party had declared victory after pulling ahead in the votes.
"This is the first time the opposition has voted a government out of power in Nigeria's history," he said.
Asked if he was confident of having won after the APC claimed victory, Buhari said: "I am very confident."
To win the election, Buhari had needed to win more than 50 percent of the total votes nationally - and take at least 25 percent of the vote in two thirds of the states.
The 72-year-old built an early lead in northern states dominated by the mainly Muslim, Hausa-Fulani ethnic group of which he is a member.
Incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, whose five years in office have been plagued by corruption scandals and an insurgency by Boko Haram fighters, was trailing by around 500,000 votes before votes in pro-opposition areas were counted.
In the previous election, more than 800 people were killed in protests after Buhari was defeated by Buhari.
There was a brief protest by Jonathan's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before the counting had resumed on Tuesday.
Former Niger Delta minister Godsday Orubebe accused elections chief Attahiru Jega of being "partial" and "selective".
Orubebe claimed Jega had refused to investigate PDP complaints about big wins by Buhari in northern states but had launched a probe into claims by the APC of irregularities in Rivers.
Jega said later: "I don't believe that the allegations are substantial enough to require the cancellation or rescheduling of the elections in Rivers state. We will take the results."
International observers gave broadly positive reactions to the conduct of the vote, despite late delivery of election materials and technical glitches with new voter authentication devices.
Nigeria's Transition Monitoring Group, which had observers across the country, said: "These issues did not systematically disadvantage any candidate or party."

Analyst Project Muhammadu Buhari As President-Elect With 95% Polling Units Collated ..

Muhammadu Buhari
Political Analyst project Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of last weekend’s presidential election based on collated poll results from 95 percent of Nigeria’s polling units. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will resume the official release of the poll figures at 10 a.m. Nigerian time today, with Mr. Buhari all but certain to be declared the president-elect.
Last night, INEC suspended the official release of the state-by-state vote counts for the keenly contested presidential election. However, with only five percent of votes remaining to be added up, our figures indicate that Mr. Buhari is leading incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan by more than two million votes. In addition, the APC candidate has secured at least twenty-five percent of votes cast in two-thirds of Nigeria’s 36 states. Mr. Buhari has so far won 14,855,820 million votes, with Mr. Jonathan trailing him with 12,107,628 million.
Our analysis, based on collated votes that were already announced in different states, shows that there is no statistical pathway open to Mr. Jonathan to surmount his vote deficit with very few polling units left to account for.
INEC’s formal declaration of Mr. Buhari as the winner of the presidential election will represent a historic moment in Nigeria’s history, being the first time that an opposition candidate would unseat an incumbent head of government at the federal level. Another historic aspect is the fact that Mr. Buhari finally triumphed on his fifth run as a presidential candidate of one of Nigeria’s parties.

INEC declares Ekwunife winner of Anambra Central senatorial poll

ekwunife-uche

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mrs Uche Ekwunife of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the Anambra Central Senatorial poll conducted on Saturday.
Declaring the result yesterday  in Awka, the Returning Officer, Dr Pius Okoye, said that Ekwunife polled 101,548 votes to defeat 14 other candidates.
Okoye, a lecturer at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, said that Chief Victor Umeh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) garnered 77, 129 votes to come second while Sen. Chris Ngige of All Progressives Congress (APC) placed third with 20, 850 votes.
Chief Anayo Nweke of African Democratic Congress (ADC) came fourth with 227 votes.
The lecturer commended the candidates for their peaceful disposition during the collation of results.
Reacting to the results, Ekwunife, who currently represents Anaocha, Njikoka and Dunukofia Federal Constituency, described the outcome as “victory for the masses.”
In a statement signed by her media assistant, Mr Emmanuel Uzor, Ekwunife urged her opponents to sheathe their swords and accept her victory in good faith.
She commended the people of Anambra Central Senatorial zone for electing her and assured them that she would justify the confidence reposed in her.
Earlier, the APC candidate, Sen. Chris Ngige, had expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections and called for its cancellation in the state.
Ngige, who refused to cast his vote on Saturday, noted that “the entire electoral process in the state was given an open ended system that allowed for rigging.”
On his part, the APGA candidate, Chief Victor Umeh, said that the party would react in due course, adding that it was still studying the result announced by INEC.
“We have no reaction yet because we are still studying the result,” Umeh said through his media aide, Mr Stanley Okeke.

Read Prof. Jega's epic response to Orubebe this morning

After PDP party agent Godsday Orubebe created an embarrassing scene at the collation centre in Abuja this morning, trying to disrupt announcement of results (read here) a very calm Jega told him;
"Mr Orubebe, you are a former Minister of the Federal Republic .You are a statesman in your own right. You should be careful about what you say or what allegations or accusations you make. Certainly you should be careful about your public conduct"
Jega's response to Orubebe has been hailed as mature and worthy of praise. In fact, there's a meaning for Jega now. 'Jega' - meaning - 'To be inexplicably chilled in the midst of stupidity or conflict". lol. Prof Jega's full response after the cut

"You have made two comments. One is that you submitted a petition  which I refused to accept. Secondly you claimed that there was a result released by the APC which you alleged that we gave to them or I gave to them. With regards to the first point, yesterday after we took the first batch of results in this hall and as we declared a recess until 4pm, as I was walking down back to the office, my PA came to me and said that here are some papers that Dr Bello Fadile, a representative of the PDP said that he should collect it; that I said Dr Fadile should give him those papers. I told him that I didn't tell Dr Fadile to give any papers to you. Return them to him because Dr Fadile, after we declared for recess came on to this platform. As a party agent, he is not supposed to do that and gave some documents to my PA who is writing results here. and I am sure some of the agents and some of the pressmen may have seen that and I told my PA to take back those documents to him. If he told you I told him to give you any documents, I did not. Take them back to him, Subsequently, Dr Fadile sent me a text message saying that there are petitions and that he wants to submit them. I told him we don't collect petitions on the platform when we are declaring results and then he said I should have left my office open so that they can submit those petitions in my office. I told him our secretary, the secretary to the commission is not anywhere in this hall. She is in her office and that her business is to receive communication. If they are important enough, she would bring them to me here. I have started collation. I cannot be receiving petition in this hall or in this platform. And when I replied that text message, he replied again and said Okay, he will see what he can do. I interpreted the text as he was going to take that petition or whatever document he has to the secretary of the commission. As I speak with you now, I have not received anything from the secretary to the commission. That is regards to the issue of the so called petition.
Regarding results published by APC on its website, I do not give results to anybody. The results were announced formally as INEC are results declared here. And we have warned everybody to be careful and to ensure that the do not declare results which we have not officially announced. So as far as I am concerned I have not seen any results. I have not given anybody any results. So for you to even engage me on that issue I think frankly that is not fair to me. I have not seen the results. How can I speak on something that I have not seen. So please let us be careful of what we say or do so that we do not disrupt a process that has ended peacefully and in a matter of hours we would be able to finish it.". Jega said

Have you seen the Kings taking over social media?

Article not written by me. It is an an advertorial. Read below...
There I was on my own looking for elections talk on social media, but a certain picture of two lion heads won’t stop coming into my space. Several celebrities and media personalities have used it on their page from Friday till today. Some of the celebrities are; Sasha, Skales, KEL, Mr May D, Audu Maikori, LilKesh, Tola Odunsi and many more. Trust Nigerians to have linked it to politics. I guess we will have to fold our hands till 1st of April to see who these lions are and what they are coming with. Wait oh! April 1st is April fool’s day! This had better not be a joke o!! You can check out #AprilLions to see things for yourself. Does anybody have an idea what this could be?

See actress Tara Reid's bikini body (photos)

39 year old actress Tara Reid was photographed at Miami beach over the weekend looking worrying thin. Her bony ribcage and large thigh gap sparked concern among fans but Tara looked like she was having the time of her life and even posted photos of her tiny frame on her instagram page. She's previously laughed off criticism of her figure, claiming she was born with a thin physique. Her body looks way older than her face. More pics after the cut..

PDP official disrupts INEC result announcement, says Jega is partial and has been compromised

He said APC had written a letter to INEC concerning an alleged rigging in Rivers state which he immediately sent a committee to investigate the issue but that when PDP wrote protest letters on the elections in Katsina, Kaduna and Jigawa, Jega did not send anyone to attend to their protest.

Orubebe, who is a former Minister of Niger Delta, is now calling for Jega to stop result collation. He sat on stage and refused to allow the result announcement to continue...
