Nnamani’s supporters protest in Enugu

Nkanu Ken Nnamani

Thousands of supporters of former Enugu State governor, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, yesterday took over major streets of Enugu protesting the result of the senatorial election, which he claimed to have won.
The protesters, who displayed the posters of Nnamani, who contested on the platform of People for Democratic Change (PDC), stormed the Enugu office of the Independent National Electoral  Commission (INEC) to register their protest before converging on the Okpara Square, where the former governor addressed newsmen.
Nnamani alleged that after elections had ended at Umuenwe-ene the electoral officials refused to count the votes.
When they were pressurised to count they counted the first and second ballot boxes and the police withdrew.
“When police withdrew, thugs took over and now held the INEC people hostage and the other  candidate and his wife started thumb printing. Do you know they did it for six hours? The REC was informed, the admin secretary was informed, the Area Commander came and left, SARS came and left.
“Even a young army officer came into Nike Hall, saw him thumb-printing and also left.”
Nnamani said there was no election in Isi-uzo; “the elections were manipulated through a pre-arranged system.
“I am here to make it clear that it has to come to an end in this country. It is completely unacceptable to me. It is an inspiration; what has happened has inspired me; it made me stronger; we are going to restructure the politics of Enugu within the next 10 days.
It’s even possible that PDP may not produce the governor.
“What we have is a crop of jobbers who had nothing doing before I introduced them to politics; all of them without exception. Apart from Jim Nwobodo and maybe Okwesilieze Nwodo any active politician today was produced by me.
“I campaigned; I went everywhere persistently; I trekked went home by home. If you go round Enugu they will tell you who won the election. So, I won the election; I want it on record that Chimaroke Nnamani won the senatorial election; I want to go on record that Nnoli Nnaji won the Reps position; that Silas Ogbodo and IK Ome won the Reps.
“We won because the result sheet shows that we won;because the list of accreditation will show the people who came and voted; and 91,000 people did not vote in Enugu East. It is physically impossible.”
