Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has said the recent National Conference organized by President Goodluck Jonathan was at the risk of his political career.
Mimiko made the observation yesterday, in Lagos at the post-National Conference Summit of which he was the South-West convener.
He reasoned that there was the possibility that the outcome of the exercise could be against Jonathan’s political interest, saying the president should be commended for putting the interest of the country over and above his personal interest.
Mimiko, said it was even more gratifying that President Jonathan has assured that all the recommendations of the conference would be implemented for the benefit of the generality of Nigerians.
Against this backdrop, the governor noted that it would be in the interest of Nigerians to give him the mandate for a second term to enable him implement the Conference recommendations, which he described as panacea to Nigeria’s problems.
Chairman on the occasion and chieftain of Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, told the august gathering that, “what Jonathan did about the confab was in tandem with the age long yearning of the Yoruba nation,” saying, “it would amount to betrayal of Yoruba’s collective cause if any Yoruba person votes against Jonathan on March 28.”
The frontline Awoist however, made it abundantly clear that, “we are not voting for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but for Jonathan because of his determination and zeal for better tomorrow for Nigeria.”
He, therefore, commended the president for being courageous to tread where previous leaders dreaded to dare.
The Ikeja Airport hall venue of the interactive session tagged, “Tomorrow starts today,” erupted into jubilation when the Minster of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye disclosed that, the Federal Executive Council has approved implementation of the recommendations of the conference recommendations.
According to him, the recommendations may be forwarded to the National Assembly for minor amendments.
Other dignitaries at the event, who unanimously agreed that Jonathan deserved Yoruba votes for a second term in office included Senator Musliu Obanikoro, Chief Abiola Ogundokun, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Chief Olabode George, Dr Kunle Olajide, Dr Femi Okurounmu, Dr Fredrick Fasehun and Otunba Gani Adams.
