Federal-high-court

A Federal High Court siting in Sokoto, yesterday, restricted the operative of Economic and Finance Crimes Commission (EFCC) from  arresting  Sokoto state government officials in connection with execution of the appropriation laws of the state under Governor Aliyu Wamakko’s administration.
The court also barred the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Inspector General of Police and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), all defendants in a suit filed by the state government.
Ruling on a suit filed by counsel to the state government, Suleiman Usman,  before Justice Rilwan Mohammed Aikawa, the court restrained the defendants and all their agents and privies from arresting any officer of the plaintiff in the ministries or departments in connection with execution or administration of the appropriation law of the state between 2008 and 2015.
The judge also ordered “that all parties should maintain the status quo ante bellum in relation to that investigation or commencement or initiating investigation in relation to the appropriation, disbursement and administration of monies appropriated in execution or administration of the appropriation  laws of Sokoto State Government.”
The case was adjourned to May 18, 2015 for the motion on notice and the originating summons.
Recall that the state chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had petitioned the anti-graft agency, urging it  to investigate the incumbent governor’s tenure from 2008 to date.
