National chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Victor Umeh, has vowed to fight for the interests of the Igbo race in Nigeria, if elected into the senate.
Umeh made the declaration yesterday, in separate remarks, while addressing the Ugoma community in Nkpor and residents of Ilo Okoye in Odume, Obosi in Anambra state.
The APGA candidate recalled that it was the nationalist struggle led by prominent Igbo like Nnamdi Azikiwe that secured independence for Nigeria and lamented that the Igbo were still being treated like a conquered race after the civil war.
He said the Igbo race would not continue to lament but, should rather, fight for their rights in the Nigerian project by sending people of courage like him to the National Assembly to enable them reclaim their birthright.
He described an effective representative as one who can stamp his feet on the ground and struggle for the equitable allocation of resources in the National Assembly .
The APGA national chairman enjoined his hosts to use their voter cards as weapon of liberation on election day by voting right, stressing that he has the courage to speak the truth to make a difference.
Umeh said APGA was formed as an identity and bargaining tool for the Igbo and assured the people of Anambra Central that a vote for the party would ensure continuity of massive development projects being executed by the Obiano administration.
Earlier, the patron of Ugoma community in Nkpor, Chief Alfred Okafor, assured Chief Umeh that the people were confident that he was going to the senate to speak for them.
