National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Anambra Central Senatorial District candidate, Chief Victor Umeh, has stated that he is not disturbed by the campaign of calumny by his opponents in the March 28 election.
He stated that he was focused in ensuring that he wins the senatorial election to have the opportunity of position to protect the general interest of Igbo at the National Assembly, as well as to attract the necessary amenities to his constituency.
In a statement by his Special Assistant (Media), Mr. Stan Okeke, in reaction to the ongoing campaign against him in the social media, electronic media stations in Anambra State, as well as at campaign rallies, Umeh said it was rather unfortunate that instead of focusing on issue-based campaign, his opponents had resorted to blackmail and unnecessary name calling.
“They have gone to the extent of writing ‘RIP’ on his billboards, defacing them and harassing and beating members of our campaign team pasting posters. They also tear and paint our posters,” Okeke lamented, adding that these were obvious acts of desperation and a sign that defeat was already starring them in the face.
He said in the face of all these provocative actions, Umeh has remained calm, determined not to be dragged into a situation that might likely cause unrest in the state.
“Their obvious plan is to drag us into retaliating, so that a state of anarchy will be created in Anambra State, which might even lead to a state of emergency. We will not allow that to happen, but we call on the state Police Command to call those responsible for these actions to order,” he said.
Okeke added: “We have no reason to run any candidate down when we know that we have every reason to believe, and know that our people are solidly behind us.”
